It seems Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has had his hands full this week as he welcomes three new players into his squad in as many days before he heads out to begin his pre-season tour in the U.S.
The Dutchman has brought four new players into the team to strengthen his chances of competing for major trophies and sending Manchester United back into the top spot. The signing of PSV star Memphis Depay last month came to the surprise and delight of many United fans, and the arrival of Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger confirmed the rumours that Red Devils chief executive Ed Woodward would be spending the big bucks this summer.
With the poor performances of Monaco striker Radamel Falcao and British record signing Angel di Maria, on top of the loss of defenders Evra, Ferdinand and Vidic, it was obvious that Van Gaal would be looking for the right players to replace them.
However it seems a few Manchester United fans have mixed reactions about the signing of Schweinsteiger. His career to date has seen him win one World Cup, One Champions League, eight Bundesliga titles and seven domestic cups, but his age and injury issues in the past have stressed concern about his ability to carry on into his 30’s.
Regardless of this it is obvious that a player of his stature in the Premier League is a massive boost for football fans worldwide and even fans of other teams are excited about his arrival despite playing for a rival club.
It’s still early days and with another six weeks left in the transfer window we could still see more players arrive at United, with Real Madrid great Sergio Ramos at the front line.
The other main talking point is Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea and his possible move to European giants Real Madrid. Although a deal has not yet been done, it seems inevitable that he will be their number one 'keeper this season with Iker Casillas moving to Porto.
Victor Valdes, who moved to Manchester United in January is already leaving which definitely an extra layer of intrigue. Will Van Gaal's signings pay off? August the 8th couldn't come quick enough!
