The deal has been slowed up by the fact that Liverpool are currently away on their pre-season tour of Australia, however chief executive Ian Ayre and his counterpart Tom Fox agreed terms late last night and now the deal is close to being done.
Liverpool have agreed to pay just £16 million up front for the 24-year-old, with the rest of his fee to be paid in instalments.
Liverpool have sent their club doctor back to the UK in order to complete the medical in London, which should be done in the next 24 hours according to the Telegraph, and the deal should be announced in the coming days.
The Reds have already sealed six deals this summer, with Benteke set to be the most expensive. Brazilian playmaker Roberto Firmino has arrived from Hoffenheim for around £28 million, while they paid around £12.5 million for Nathaniel Clyne.
Adam Bogdan, James Milner, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez have also arrived at Anfield.
