Sergio Romero looks set to join Manchester United this week, with the Argentina international deep in talks with the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils are known to be in the market for a goalkeeper since it’s been made clear that Victor Valdes’ position looks untenable.
Couple that with the fact that David de Gea could yet make a transfer to Real Madrid, and the purchase of a new stopper is one that Louis van Gaal must make.

The Dutchman has reportedly responded - as per the Daily Mail - by pushing strongly to sign Argentina international Romero, who is a free agent after running down his contract with Fiorentina.
However, United aren’t the only suitors in the race for his signature, with Italian giants AS Roma also in talks despite the fact they’ve been linked with a move for Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny.
In any case Romero’s future will be likely determined by the end of this week, with the player still needing a proper pre-season having not played since the Copa America. As a result Van Gaal will be vying to sort a deal as soon as possible, and it does look like a move to Old Trafford is possible.
The allure of the red half of Manchester has always been strong, and since Van Gaal’s tenure has so far brought about promising things there’s no reason to suggest they won’t be a major force in the Premier League next term.
That said Roma remain a viable option, particularly if Romero believes De Gea is going to stay at United. The Spain international will inevitably be Van Gaal’s number one between the sticks if he is still at Old Trafford come the end of the transfer window, and Romero might not fancy attempting to dislodge him.
Meanwhile it’s now said Valdes’ future could be in the MLS, with the Spaniard thought to be of interest to the Seattle Sounders.
Initially Valencia were thought to be the frontrunners for his signature, though they’ll ruled themselves out due to his terms being too expensive.
