Back at Elimination Chamber, we saw Ryback beat off competition from five other superstars to claim the Intercontinental Championship, however I think this was yet another mistake WWE have made with this title.
Fall in presige
Over the last year the recently returned prestige that came along with being the Intercontinental Champion has rapidly diminished due to the awful storylines that the WWE are putting the title in.
A year ago the IC title had regained the aura that it had once held. There were a number of superstars vying for the title and it was no longer something that the bigger stars turned their nose up at.

When we had superstars like Dolph Ziggler as champion we saw some amazing matches for the championship, one that springs to mind would be Ziggler vs Luke Harper at TLC last year.
At this time, matches that involved the Intercontinental Championship were some of the best that the company produced, however this all changed after Fastlane.

Farce after Fastlane
At Fastlane we had Bad News Barrett against Dean Ambrose for the Intercontinental Championship.
This was a match which ended with Barrett retaining his title via disqualification after Ambrose refused to back away from him before the referee's count.
After he was disqualified, Ambrose stormed to the Timekeeper's area and stole the Intercontinental Championship. This was where things went downhill for this title.
For the next few weeks the title was stolen by a number of superstars who all claimed that they deserved a shot at the title. The idea they had for the match at WrestleMania was good, however the build up in the storyline completely ruined the reputation, making it look like a joke.
Although it wasn't his fault, Daniel Bryan getting injured shortly after returning didn't help the case much either, as it meant that the title dropped from TV completely for a number of weeks thus dropping its value even lower.
Elimination Chamber onwards
At Elimination Chamber Ryback won the IC title, however I feel that this was the wrong decision in an attempt to try and pull the reputation of the title out of the gutter.
I have noting against Ryback as a competitor however he lacks mic skills, which is something that are almost vital in a good storyline nowadays. That combined with the awful storyline that WWE creative have come up with for the title with The Miz and Big Show haven't helped the situation.
Where do they go from here?
From this point I think bringing Kevin Owens into the title picture would be a good idea.
Now that he is fully committed to the main roster and his rivalry with John Cena is at an end, it would be a good battle between him and Ryback for the title.
They also need to start dividing superstars evenly between fighting for the US and IC titles, as currently the bigger stars are always either fighting over one or the other.
