Manchester United will have to pay more than €25million if they’re to land Lazio star Lucas Biglia this summer, with the Italian club having already rejected a bid of that much from the Red Devils.
According to a report in Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Lazio have turned down an opening gambit from the Old Trafford outfit, and have decided that they won’t entertain offers unless they’re around the €40m mark.
Of course United’s supposed interest in Biglia is nothing new, with it having been reported over the course of the past few weeks that they were plotting to buy him before the window ends.

The news that they’ve backed up that interest with a formal offer could be big however, and may offer a hint as to Louis van Gaal’s next move in the transfer market.
Van Gaal a busy man
To date the Dutchman has purchased Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian this summer, but has remained fairly cryptic on his plans regarding who’s next.
Van Gaal has mentioned a ‘surprise’ signing that the mainstream media hasn’t linked his club with yet, so it’s safe to assume he’s not finished his business.
However, with Biglia a midfielder by trade some fans may be surprised if the speculation surrounding Van Gaal’s bid is true.
A worthy target?
United are in need of a defensive stalwart, could do with another striker to provide Wayne Rooney with proper competition and may require a goalkeeper before too long, so where does Biglia fit into the puzzle?
Well, the Argentina international is a defensive-midfielder with a highly efficient footballing brain, for a start, and his versatility across the park could prove useful if injuries strike next season. At the same time he’s vastly experienced, and at 29 could become another role model for young players in Van Gaal’s squad.
second bid unlikely?
Of course by that same measuring stick he is edging towards the close of his career, and so €40m is a ridiculously steep price-tag for Lazio to be sticking with.
United have money to thrown around but they’re still not going to be held to ransom, so unless the Serie A club drop their asking price it’s unlikely they’ll have to consider another offer.
