Ashley Young’s resurgence at Manchester United under Louis van Gaal probably deserves a new contract, but the player himself has confirmed he has yet to agree terms on an extension.
The winger has been heavily ostracised over the course of his Old Trafford career but last season he was one of the club’s most consistent performers.
However, Young did admit that although many people already thought he had already penned a new contract, he hasn’t. That comes on top of speculation linking him with a return to Aston Villa, with Tim Sherwood interested in striking a deal.
"I think a lot of people thought I had it (the contract) done but I haven’t. It’s in the club’s hands now so I will have to see how it goes," he said.
"I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world so I want to stay here as long as possible. That’s exactly what I want to do. There have been preliminary talks and I hope I can sort things out."
Romero agrees move
Elsewhere it’s said Sergio Romero has agreed terms of his United move and will fly out to watch his potential new club playing against Barcelona this weekend.
The Red Devils face the European champions in San Francisco, and Romero will be in attendance, ahead of a pending medical with the club. His arrival could well mean that either David de Gea or Victor Valdes are due to leave United soon.
