Manchester United produced a morale-boosting performance against Barcelona on Saturday evening, with Louis van Gaal's side triumphing 3-1 over the European champions in California.
Wayne Rooney, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj were on target - as was Rafinha for Barcelona - and it was the display of the latter Manchester United player that appeared to most impress the manager.
Januzaj, so often a peripheral figure last season, was employed as a centre-forward for the 30 or so minutes he played at the Levi's Stadium and capped off a lively display with a well taken goal.

Van Gaal, rarely one to lavish praise on even his most established of charges, was encouraged by what he saw from the Manchester United No.11, and it may be that Januzaj will be afford the further opportunities to prove his worth in this unaccustomed position.
"He was very good. He always gave an option for his midfielders and defenders and he scored a wonderful goal, and that is always important," Van Gaal said.
"He had to fight with two defenders though it was easier playing against a defence with Gerard Pique."
While it was a notable performance from Januzaj in this central role it does not disguise the fact that Manchester United need to reinforce in this area with the new Premier League campaign edging closer.
With Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao both departed, there is a requirement for a proven striker to bolster Van Gaal's goalscoring options as, while a nice thought, using Januzaj and others as makeshift forwards just won't do for the duration of the season.
Should Manchester United persist with Adnan Januzaj as a centre-forward?
