Evergreen midfield general Esteban Cambiasso is set to stay in the Premier League for at least another season - but it's not to stay with Leicester.
Aston Villa are now amongst the favourites to land 34-year-old Cambiasso who walked out on Leicester on Wednesday after refusing to sign on another season at the King Power Stadium. Now, quick to tie up an agreement with the defensive midfielder, Tim Sherwood is moving quickly to try and get a deal in place for Cambiasso.
A few eyebrows were raised when Leicester completed the signing of Cambiasso last summer after the player looked set to return to his native Argentina to finish off his career, however some shrewd business from Leicester convinced him to try out the Premier League and the excellence of Cambiasso helped Leicester beat the drop and it looks like Aston Villa are going to try and add some experience and quality to their midfield.
Having recently lost Tom Cleverly and Fabian Delph to Everton and Man City respectively, the pressure is on Tim Sherwood to plug the gaping hole in midfield that was left and a quick fix would come in the form of Cambiasso as the Midlands side continue to be raided during the transfer window.
However it's not going to be a straightforward capture as late competition from Premier League rivals West Ham and Sunderland have thrown a spanner in the works for Sherwood, who had been hoping to wrap the deal up sooner rather than later considering Cambiasso is now a free agent.
The player is still keeping his options open as the offers are flying in however Slaven Bilic is keen to bolster up his options having already brought in three new players he will be hoping to have a host of players available for selection and will feel that the financial backing of the board would be enough to convince Cambiasso to remain down South and play his football in London.
