Darius Slay says the Seahawks defense isn't far ahead of them

One of the biggest moves of the off-season this year was defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh leaving the Detroit Lions to join the Miami Dolphins in free agency.

Suh became the highest paid defensive player in the league following his move to Miami and everyone is wondering what the Lions will be able to do next year?

Detroit acted swiftly following the loss of Suh by making a trade with the Baltimore Ravens for Haloti Ngata.

Everyone is now asking what the Lions will be able to do without Suh and without some of the other players they have lost on defense?

Detroit led the league in scoring defense for much of last season but the late rise of the Seattle Seahawks saw them claim that throne come the end of the year.

Despite Seattle having had the highest scoring defense for the last three years and matching the 1969-71 Minnesota Vikings, some Lions players remain upbeat.

Lions cornerback Darius Slay has spoken out about their chances of besting the NFC Champions next season.

Slay may not be saying that the Lions are ready to take Seattle's place in the Super Bowl, but he does make one claim about their defense.

"They ain't too much different. They got a pass rush, they've got DBs, we've got DBs. They've got 'backers, we've got 'backers." - Slay proving all defenses have the same things

Somewhat pointing out the obvious, Slay acknowledges that the Seahawks and the Lions have the same types of players.

Detroit had a good season on defense last year but they were hard pressed to stop the team from losing their last two games to the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers in both the regular and post-seasons.

Having now lost both Nick Fairly and Suh, it will be interesting to see if Detroit's defense can be as effective in 2015 and how they fare when they go head to head with the Seahawks in week four.

Set to rise against Green Bay?

The Green Bay Packers were arguably the most consistent team in the NFC last season and claimed the NFC North title before losing to the Seahawks in the Championship game.

Green Bay are expected to stake another claim for the Super Bowl next year but it will be down to Detroit to stop them first.

If the Lions are able to claim the division, it will certainly stake their claim as one of the top teams in the NFC.
