Football News

Marcos Rojo has been fined two weeks wages after he did not renew his passport in time to re-join his teammates for pre-seson preparations, the Mail Online reports.

The incident comes less than two weeks before Manchester United are set to face Tottenham at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League game.

United's final friendly match before the new campaign is on 30 July in America against Paris Saint Germain.

Passport problems

Rojo was given an extended break by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal after his participation in the Copa America with Argentina.

The 25-year-old was due to arrive in North America on Saturday night but was not able to board due to an issue with his passport.

Angel gone AWOL

Rojo wasn't the only United player to miss the flight, though. Angel Di Maria remarkably failed to make the same flight, however United boss Van Gaal does not know why.

The United boss announced in a press conference that:

"Marcos Rojo was not on the plane, he had a passport issue but with Di Maria I don't know why [he wasn't on the plane]."

This news arrived on the same day [Saturday] that United continued their unbeaten pre-season record with an impressive 3-1 win over Barcelona. Rooney, Lingard and Januzaj were on target for the reds, whilst Rafinha scored a late consolation goal for Barca.
