WWE Superstar John Cena suffered a brutal injury during last night's RAW main event, taking a knee to the face from Seth Rollins that left him with a broken nose.

Despite the painful blow, Cena managed to continue his fight but WWE doctors later confirmed the severity of the injury.

With the images painting a pretty worrying picture, WWE physician Dr. Steve Daquino updated fans on Cena's status:

"John suffered a nasal fraction. He's got quite a bit of displacement, so we sent him over the local emergency room so he can be evaluated...and see what can be done to properly repair it."

As well as the Instagram post, WWE's official website included a number of other photos which show the "displacement" Daquino described. The pair below making it look like John Cena just went 12 rounds with Mike Tyson...

SummerSlam fears

Although the in-ring clash looks to have left John Cena needing to protect his nose for a few weeks at least, the expectation is still that the veteran Superstar will be good to go for the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view.

With Cena set to face off against Seth Rollins at the event the fact that his broken nose came at the hands of the WWE Champion could actually help ramp up the rivalry before their August 23rd showdown.

Until then Cena may have to wear a mask if he is to continue in-ring action, or, depending on the prognosis, the WWE could opt to keep him out of the firing line all together.

WWE fans: Would every wrestler have carried on with a broken nose, or is John Cena the toughest star out there? Have your say in the comments below...
