Atletico Madrid sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch believes it is now "impossible" for his club to sign Valencia star David Silva.

Silva, along with team-mate David Villa, is on several clubs´ wish-lists and speculation was rife that the pair would be offloaded to balance the books at the cash-stricken club. However, the duo have reiterated their desire to remain at the Mestalla and Garcia Pitarch has conceded defeat in his efforts to sign Silva after the midfielder helped Spain win Euro 2008.

"After the European Championship he has had, it is impossible," he said. "Frankly, I think Silva has always been unlikely to join another Spanish club."
