Former France forward Christophe Dugarry believes Les Bleus have lost "the best goalscorer since Jean-Pierre Papin" as a consequence of the decision to keep faith in coach Raymond Domenech.

Juventus striker David Trezeguet retired from international football on Wednesday, citing the French Football Federation´s (FFF) failure to sack the under-fire Domenech as the reason for his choice.

"The Federal Council knew full well that certain players would leave the team if they (the FFF) kept Domenech," he told French radio station RMC. "Now here we´re seeing the consequences of the difficulties which started with the coach. We´ve lost perhaps the best French goalscorer since Jean-Pierre Papin."
