Spain´s Euro 2008 victory has seen them climb to the top of the FIFA world rankings for the first time since the system was introduced in 1993.

Luis Aragones´ side moved up three places from fourth thanks to their second-ever major tournament win, knocking long-time leaders Argentina off the top spot.

The European Championships have given many of the national teams on the Old Continent the chance to leapfrog the dominant sides in South America.
