Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Augsburg full-back Baba Rahman, according to the player's agent.

As reported by the Guardian, Sascha Empacher has insisted that an agreement between the two clubs should be finalised soon, as the youngster looks set for a move to Stamford Bridge in the immediate future.

In fact, the same report from the Guardian claims that the Blues are set to sign the talented 21-year-old in a deal worth as much as £17.5 million after initially seeing their opening offer rejected for the player.

Rahman is already a regular for the Ghanaian national side, and most definitely looks set for a bright future in the game, so it's not entirely surprising that the Blues hierarchy are set to splash the cash to bring him to English soil.

The news may well come as a blow to Chelsea's Premier League rivals, with the duo of Arsenal and Manchester City having been linked with his signature. And, if the youngster's agent is to be believed, a deal could be announced sooner rather than later.

“Both clubs are still working on fine-tuning but we hope the agreement will be finalised soon,” Rahman’s agent, Sascha Empacher, told Guardian sport.

Perfect Luis replacement

Ultimately, Filipe Luis, who returned to Atletico should have been a fine signing for the Blues, but he was clearly in need of first-team football week in, week out.

Naturally, though, the experienced defender didn't want to sit on the bench, but Rahman will learn a great deal from the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic, as he continues to seek improvement in his game.

He's not going to be cheap, of course, but he's certainly a long-term investment for the west London outfit.
