A decision on whether future European Championships will be expanded to include as many as eight more countries will be made before the end of the year, according to UEFA chief David Taylor.

The current 16-team format has been in operation since 1996 there have been calls for it to be enlarged to comprise either 20 or 24 nations. Taylor, the general secretary of European football´s governing body, confirmed officials would discuss a possible expansion at the end of the current tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"We will be going through a consultation phase at the end of the tournament, and then we will take a view as to what we should be doing," Taylor said.
