Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he never imagined playing for the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid while growing up.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the world's best player has, however, insisted that he believed he was different from other children, but never thought about becoming a professional in the game.

Ronaldo, of course, is now regarded as the best player in world football by many and, of course, broke the world transfer record in 2009 when he left Manchester United in favour of a move to Real Madrid.

The Portuguese superstar, though, never really expected things would turn out this way...

"Everyone in my family loves football," Ronaldo said in an exclusive interview for Herbalife.

Memories

"I remember one day playing in the street. My father said to me, 'why don't you come into the club when I work?' I say yes, why not. And I started to play.

"I go to training every day and I liked being part of a team. I trained every day and my father was there to help me.

"In the beginning, I felt that I was different to the other kids.

"I did not think that one day I would be a professional, playing for Manchester United or Real Madrid or Sporting.

"I would just play to enjoy but I was never thinking I have talent and I'm going to be a professional. In the beginning, I did not feel that.

"But after three or four years, I started thinking 'I want to play there' and I started watching the games and then I started to dream about it."

Hard work pays off

It's simple really, Ronaldo became the superstar he is today through putting in a great deal of hard work to constantly better himself.

Ultimately, the former Manchester United man has always had the talent, but it could have turned out differently if he hadn't had the right mentality to succeed.

Fortunately for us, though, Ronaldo's determination to be the best has given the watching world a great deal of pleasure. Fans of Sporting, Manchester United and Real Madrid really have been lucky to watch the brilliant forward star for their clubs.
