Arsenal look towards the title after Community Shield success

After Arsenal retained the community shield, they look to be in for a better shot of the title than they have in past years.

Wenger has won three trophies in pre-season so far. Granted, they were minor trophies, but to beat Wolfsburg, Chelsea, Lyon and Everton on the road to these successes is no minor feat.

If they continue in this form, they will without a doubt be challenging aggressively for the title.

After the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea, a lot of people said that he will be key to the arsenal campaign this year.

Fans, pundits and players alike have all said that Cech is already one of the best transfers if this window. It has been a pre-season to remember for Cech, with three trophies and two clean sheets already to his name, it looks like the £11 million it took to bring him to Arsenal was a coup.

Arsenal have a midfield that has serious potential, with English stars leading the backbone. With Wilshere, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain all players with rising futures, as well as Ramsey, Ozil and Cazorla, the midfield is jam packed with talent.

Their defence is one brimmed talent. Chambers and Gibbs are two bright full-backs and along with Debuchy, Koscielny and Mertesacker, the defence can stand against most opposition attacks.

However, the only flaw I can see Arsenal having this season would be with injuries. Every year, a key aspect to whichever team wins the Premier League is always the amount of injured players they have.

Arsenal have quite a few injury prone players on their books, some of them are their first team stars. Wilshere is notorious for being injured and others like Giroud and Walcott, who will be key to Arsenal’s season, are usually struck with injuries at some point through the season.

If they are to win the title this season, they will need a team that can withstand injuries, especially ones to their key players. Giroud was key to their team last season, scoring 19 goals, but he can easily be one of Arsenal’s weak links. It is easy to see why Arsenal fans want a new forward.

With a world class striker on board, I think that Arsenal will finally be ready to challenge for the title. With Cech between the sticks, Arsenal will be hard to stop home and away.

The stage is now set, and Arsenal will face West Ham in their first game of the season. It shouldn’t be too much of a daunting task, but West Ham have the ability to shock the Arsenal fans.

When August 9 comes and Arsenal v West Ham commences we will have already seen the results of Man United v Tottenham and Chelsea v Swansea, so we will know what Arsenal will have to do to match or beat their rivals.
