Penalty peril may decide quarter-finalists

Penalties will decide whether Czech Republic or Turkey go through to the Euro 2008 quarter-finals if their clash in Geneva on Sunday ends in a draw, UEFA have confirmed.

The new regulation will be used if there are two teams who are playing each other in the final group game and a third country is not involved.

UEFA have stated spot-kicks will be taken after 90 minutes if they are level on points, goal difference and goals scored - meaning Sunday´s match could be the first time a shootout has featured at the group stage of a major tournament.
