Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal would be a ‘happy man’ if Gareth Bale arrives from Real Madrid this summer.
This is according to United legend - and current club ambassador - Bryan Robson, who believes the versatile Bale would be ideal for Van Gaal at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Wales international again this week, and Robson hopes the potential record-breaking deal will happen before the transfer window closes on September 1.

“Bringing Bale in would be a really good signing if it was to happen,” Robson was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. “The good thing with Bale, and this is what the manager likes, is he can play in two different positions - he can play wide coming in and also as a centre-forward.
“It will be really difficult but if the manager can add him to the squad I think he will be a happy man.”

Big changes in United squad
Manchester United have already secured the services of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Sergio Romero this summer, with Pedro also expected to arrive from Barcelona this week.
The Red Devils have balanced the books by shifting the deadwood from their squad, with the likes of Nani, Robin van Persie and Rafael having all departed Old Trafford over recent weeks.
But United’s biggest sale will take place later this week, once Angel di Maria’s £44 million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain is finally confirmed.
Di Maria’s departure will free up Manchester United’s iconic number seven shirt - and there’s no doubt that officials and fans alike would love to see a superstar like Bale take on the jersey previously worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and co.
Gareth Bale set to stay with Real Madrid
However, there appears to be very little chance of Real Madrid agreeing to sell their record signing - the most expensive player in football history.
Not only is Real Madrid’s recently-appointed head coach Rafael Benitez keen to help bring out the best in the former Tottenham star, but club president Florentino Perez remains a huge fan of the Welshman.
Bale has been granted his wish to move away from the right wing, in order to become more involved, and is determined to silence his critics at the Bernabeu this season.
While a move to Manchester United might interest him in the future, Bale still has his heart set on Real Madrid at this moment in time.
