Ian Wright begs Arsenal to sign Karim Benzema on Twitter

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has taken to Twitter to urge Gunners boss Arsene Wenger to sign Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema this summer.

The Real Madrid forward has been linked with a switch to the Emirates Stadium this summer, although Wenger recently ruled out a potential swoop for the Frenchman.

Spanish newspaper AS reported last week that Arsenal were lining up a €65 million swoop for Benzema. When asked about it by journalists, Wenger replied: No, nothing is happening. Honestly, no. I don't know who brings that up. Is it Spanish media or English media? I don't know."

Despite the denial, the rumours refuse to go away over Benzema, who is under contract at Real Madrid until 2019, and Wright is still hopeful that a deal can be done before the window slams shut.

After taking to Twitter this afternoon the former striker posted a one-word Tweet which simply read: 'Benzema' which was followed by a series of 'praying' emojis.

Another player who's also been commenting on the potential arrival of Benzema is Santi Cazorla, who would like to see the Real Madrid man strut his stuff in north London.

He told CadenaCOPE: "Benzema is a great player. Every side would like to have him but I think the manager already has his team made and probably he is not looking for another striker.

"Benzema fits into any team. The good players fit well in every side. He has quality and would adapt great."

So far this summer Arsenal have made just one major signing, bringing in Petr Cech from Chelsea in a deal worth around £10 million.

The 33-year-old helped his new club beat his former employers in the Community Shield on Sunday, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scoring the only goal of the game. That represented Arsene Wenger's first victory over rival Jose Mourinho and now the Gunners are being tipped for a title challenge.

Can Arsenal actually win the Premier League title this season?
