Manchester United's goalkeeping crisis got little bit worse today as Sam Johnstone declared his desire to leave Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window. The third-choice goalkeeper is wanted by several clubs on loan and he has made it clear that he wants to get first-team experience elsewhere.
That is according to The Mail, who claim as many as four goalkeepers could be on their way out of Manchester United in the final three weeks of the transfer window. Such an instance would leave new signing Sergio Romero as the only recognised shot stopper available to Louis van Gaal.
Victor Valdes has been told he can leave the club and even returned to Carrington to find his training gear removed from the senior dressing room. Anders Lindegaard has been told something similar and is expected to seal a move away in the near future.

David de Gea will obviously be the biggest name to depart but Real Madrid have so far failed to agree a deal with Manchester United. Ed Woodward has been digging in his heels over the £35million asking price, but it is growingly obvious that the Spain international's motivation is deteriorating.
Johnstone is obviously not in the same class as De Gea, although he did impress whilst on loan with Preston North End last season, eventually helping them to win promotion to the Championship. They want him back for next season and were in talks over a renewal.

Manchester United delayed the deal as the uncertainty over their other senior goalkeepers became unclear. However, the 22-year-old is not happy with the idea of being a third-choice goalkeeper and has made his feelings clear to those who matter at Old Trafford.
The situation is far from ideal and could see Van Gaal scrambling around for at least two goalkeepers before the transfer window closes. To make matters harder, one of those goalkeepers will be charged with the task of being the club's new No1.
Jasper Cillessen is believed to be the preferred choice of Van Gaal, but Ajax are likely to increase the price as the transfer window draws nearer to a close. It is a situation that threatens to turn into a crisis if it is not sorted soon.
