Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry is set for a loan spell at fellow Premier League club West Bromwich Albion.

The Germany youth star is expected to link up with the West Midlands club until January with an option to extend the deal until the the end of the coming campaign, according to the Mail.

The 20-year-old's first-team opportunities at the Emirates have been limited and the temporary switch could be an ideal platform for him to showcase his talents to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

Gnabry joined Arsenal for £100,000 from Stuttgart in 2011 and excelled through the youth ranks in North London. He was handed a first team in 2012, coming on as a substitute during a 6-1 League Cup win over Coventry City in 2012.

A month later he became Arsenal's third youngster ever league debutant, behind Jack Wilshere and Cesc Fabregas, coming on as an 83rd minute substitute in the 1-0 away defeat to Norwich City.

The German also made his Champions League debut in the same season, replacing Carl Jenkinson during the 2-0 home defeat to Schalke.

He made his first league start for Arsenal during the 2013-14 season, starting in the 3-1 win against Stoke City, playing 73 minutes. Gnabry went on to make nine league appearances for Arsenal as they finished fourth.

Gnabry, who has made three appearances for Germany under-21's, missed the majority of the last campaign following a knee injury he picked up in pre-season. He returned in January but failed to make an appearance for the Gunners.

The loan switch will be perfect platform for the Arsenal man to showcase his ability to compete at Premier League level on a regular basis, with West Brom desperate for new signings in the wide positions.

Options

The Gunners are blessed with a number of players capable of occupying the wide positions. Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck are all used on the wings on a regular basis. Aaron Ramsey was also deployed at right midfield on occasions last season.

Walcott is tipped to play a role through the middle this season having started upfront in the Community Shield and is expected to share the responsibility with Olivier Giroud.

Arsenal are expected to produce a strong challenge for the Premier League title this season following a fantastic end to the last campaign.

News of a serious injury to Jack Wilshere, that could keep the England star out for a couple of months, is the only downside of a strong pre-season for the North London club.

Arsenal start their campaign at home to West Ham United on Sunday.
