Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi has been told by boss Rafa Benitez that he is no longer needed by the club with Liverpool set to move in for the 25-year-old, the Daily Express reports.
Since joining from Real Sociedad in 2013, the Spaniard has made 90 appearances in all competitions.
Illaramendi won awards for 'Breakthrough Player of the Year' and 'Midfielder of the Year' during the 2012-13 season with Sociedad which resulted in a £22 million transfer to Madrid - the highest paid by the club for a Spanish player.

Just two years into a six-year deal, though, and it looks like the midfieler's days at Madrid are numbered as a bid of around £15 million is rumoured to be being lined up by Brendan Rodgers.
This comes just a week after reports suggested that the player had rejected the chance to join Liverpool, insisting he wanted to fight for his place at Madrid.
Arsenal are also rumoured to be interested in the former Spain U23 international.
