Jose Mourinho has said he thinks that the transfer window should be shut before the beginning of the season.
"The transfer window is over, you know what I mean?" he said. "I don't like the transfer window when the Premier League competition starts after tomorrow, I don't like transfer window during the competition."
We can't rule out the Mourinho's mind games here as many believe there is a still a big transfer coming to Chelsea but this is where the transfer window gets particularly exciting and a manager in Mourinho's position should be excited by it.

Being the manager of the best team in the country puts Chelsea in the privileged position of having their pick of players to join their squad from rival teams around the country. As horrible as it sounds, if a player shows good quality early on, Chelsea can eradicate the danger of him playing against them by buying him to play for them (Of course I am not suggesting all players are available to Chelsea). The games kicking off also provide a better cover for who is going to arrive at the club late on.
There is talk of Manchester City signing Kevin De Bruyne and talks of Manchester United signing Pedro Rodriguez. There is no talk of any big transfers from any other of the top clubs. Chelsea, Arsenal and even Liverpool should fear these players coming to the Premier League and have to decide whether their squad is up to the task of dealing with them. If the managers don't believe they are then obviously more players need to be signed for that particular club.

However, the 'mind games' and excitement begins when Chelsea make a big purchase of say Antoine Griezman, or Mario Gotze on the final day of the transfer window. Suddenly, these top teams aren't equipped to deal with the squad they are now up against in Chelsea and it gives them the psychological advantage.
I understand the point that the end of the transfer window would still be exciting if it happened before the season started for the same reasons, but the start of the season provides a smoke screen for what is going on and an early indication for all the teams if they need another signing to be made.
This transfer window isn't done yet and if teams want to challenge Chelsea this year, they will need to make that late signing that can change their fortunes.
Should the transfer window end before the first game of the season?
