Spanish football expert Guillem Balague revealed on Thursday that Manchester United have agreed terms with Pedro, but have yet to submit a formal offer to Barcelona.

United are reluctant to pay Pedro’s £22 million release clause - but may need to if they are unable to convince Barça to sell for a lower fee.

Pedro wants more first-team opportunities

Pedro has decided to leave Barcelona for Manchester United in order to become a first-team regular again, while simultaneously enhancing his chances of playing for Spain at next summer’s European Champions in France.

Manchester United have the funds available to sign the Spanish World Cup winner and further bolstered their accounts with the £46 million sale of Angel di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday.

Pedro will suit United more than Di Maria

Pedro is more of a ‘Louis van Gaal-type player’ than the off-the-cuff Di Maria.

The diminutive star is able to play in multiple positions across the forward line, works hard for the team and is capable of carrying out complex tactical instructions.

Van Gaal is offering Pedro the opportunity to become Manchester United’s first-choice right-sided forward, as the Dutch coach assembles a new-look attacking triumvirate comprised of the Spaniard, Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay.
