Bayer Leverkusen have parted company with coach Michael Skibbe, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

Leverkusen failed to qualify for Europe after a late dip in form saw them finish in seventh place in the recently-concluded Bundesliga season.

Leverkusen chief executive Wolfgang Holzhauser said: "Following the club´s recent Bundesliga results and failing to achieve the season target of [reaching] the UEFA Cup, we agreed with the sporting leadership to immediately part company with Michael Skibbe."
