FC Twente claim former England manager Steve McClaren was only at their play-off match against Ajax to "watch a good game of football".

McClaren watched the Enschede club qualify for the Champions League in the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday at the expense of Ajax, sparking reports he has been offered the chance to replace Fred Rutten, who is set to join German side Schalke in the summer.

The 47-year-old McClaren has been out of work since he left the England job in November following the failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and he is said to be considering rebuilding his career in Holland.
