Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell is expected to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes after being stripped of his squad number.
The 21-year-old, who joined United as a highly-rated teenager from Crewe Alexandra in 2012, was assigned the number 22 shirt last August. However, the same squad number is now unassigned at Old Trafford.
Powell has not been handed another squad number and is subsequently expected to leave Old Trafford, if Manchester United can find a buyer, before September 1.

Powell was once billed as the next Paul Scholes and enhanced his reputation by scoring a Scholes-esque goal on his Premier League debut against Wigan Athletic in September 2012.
The talented midfielder went on to make seven appearances for United in his debut campaign at Old Trafford before being loaned to Wigan Athletic, where he impressed, scoring 12 goals in 42 games for the Latics.
Nick Powell failed at Leicester City
Louis van Gaal, like his predecessor David Moyes, also decided it was in Powell’s best interests to spend time away from Old Trafford on loan and subsequently organised a temporary move to Leicester City.
However, Powell made just three appearances for the Foxes before his loan contract was prematurely terminated due to the player’s alleged lack of commitment in training.
Clearly unimpressed by Powell’s failure to make the most of his opportunity with Leicester City, the ruthless Van Gaal appears to have decided to offload him.
