D'Angelo Russell hits awesome shot - celebrates with Kobe immitation

D'Angelo Russell was known in his college days for his eccentric and confident playing style and it looks like that has continued into life in the pros.

The Los Angeles Lakers rookie endured some tough spells during Summer League but wowed the franchise's fans with a epic shot from his own free throw line and now a new video has helped him endear himself even more to the Lakers faithful.

Copying the master

The vine, posted by the NBA over the weekend, shows Russell make an impressive backwards half-court shot but it is his celebration, mimicking the Lakers' own Kobe Bryant, that shows the PG's eccentric nature.

The no-look shot is good enough on its own but D'Angelo Russell topped it off by bringing out his new teammate's famous fist pump celebration.

Part of what attracted the Lakers to Russell in the 2015 Draft was the young prospect's potential to become a true superstar of the NBA. 

Whilst he still has a long way to go to achieve that aim the vine above at least shows he has the bravado often associated with those that make it to the top.

With Kobe Bryant having recently praised the talents of NBA impersonator Brandon Armstrong for his take on the Black Mamba's iconic moves we will have to say in the perennial All-Star has anything to say about being copied a little closer to home.

As for Russell, Lakers fans will be hoping his fun-loving style can bring about happier times at the Staples Center in 2015-16.
