Arsenal loanee Yaya Sanogo netted a hat-trick as Ajax swept aside Qatari side Umm Salal 6-1 in a pre-season friendly on Monday.

The 22-year-old has made three competitive appearances for Ajax since signing from the Gunners, scoring three goals - he only ever scored one competitive goal in north London.

The Frenchman joined the Eredivise runners-up on-loan at the start of July, on a season-long deal.

Sanogo had a less than convincing loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, failing to score in ten appearances for the club.

The 22-year-old will hope he can improve his goal tally at his new club and break into Arsenal’s first team next season, if not before, and did no harm in his bid to do so with three goals in the unannounced friendly.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will hope that competitive football will provide Sanogo with the experience he needs to kickstart his career at Arsenal, especially given that his strikers drew a blank in their Premier League opener against West Ham on Sunday.
