The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ruled that former Sampdoria captain Francesco Flachi must serve a two-year ban from football after testing positive for cocaine in January of last year.

Flachi, 33, failed a random drugs test after Sampdoria´s 2-0 Serie A home defeat to Internazionale on January 28, 2007.

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) immediately sought a two-year ban but last summer the Italian football league chose to impose only a 16-month ban as it was the player´s first offence.
