CM Punk and UFC fighter Cathal Pendred got into a Twitter fight yesterday afternoon, leaving many to speculate if a future fight could happen between the two.
Punk has been training for his first UFC fight, which is rumoured to be near the end of the year or the start of 2016, and has been shown in several UFC promotional videos and press conferences.
This hasn’t gone down well with the Irish fighter, as he believes the former WWE Superstar has only managed to sign for the UFC because of his fame in the wrestling business.

Throughout the exchanges between the two on Twitter, Pendred claimed that Punk exercising on the pads made the welterweight fighter look like Muhammad Ali, whilst Punk claimed Pendred is nothing like Ali through several tweets, specifically saying because he is boring.
The Twitter fight ended with the Irishman saying the former WWE Superstar was ‘pretending to be a fighter’, but could the fight continue in the Octagon?

Possible Debut Fight?
Pendred is currently a welterweight fighter, so if Punk wanted to fight him, he would have to enter himself in this weight division when he debuts in the UFC, and not at middleweight. Pendred, 27, is nine years younger than Punk, who is 36.
Also, there is a vast difference in MMA experience between the two fighters. Pendred has been a professional fighter since 2009, and has had 21 fights across the welterweight and middleweight divisions, with a record of 17 wins, three losses and one draw. Punk on the other hand is yet to make his debut as a MMA fighter.
In terms of skill level too, there is a big difference. Punk is only a white belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, whilst Pendred is a blue belt. He is likely not to be thrown into the Octagon with someone like Pendred in his debut fight as he would lose, but when he gains more experience, this fight could become a possibility.
Many have speculated that Punk’s first fight will be against former Power Ranger Jason David Frank, as they are closer to the same age.
