Muller: Time was running out

Published Add your comment

Schalke general manager Andreas Muller insisted he could not afford to wait until the end of the season to get rid of coach Mirko Slomka.

Slomka was dismissed on Sunday in the wake of the Royal Blues´ 5-1 thrashing by Werder Bremen which dealt a blow to their hopes of Champions League qualification.

Muller had given his backing to Slomka in the immediate aftermath of the defeat, claiming he would be on the bench for Tuesday´s clash with Energie Cottbus, but decided on Saturday evening the coach had to go now.
