Arsenal full-back Nacho Monreal is set to sign a new three-year deal at the Emirates and put to bed any speculation of a move away from North London.
Earlier in the transfer window Monreal was linked with a return to Spain, but the defender made clear his wish to stay at Arsenal and Arsene Wenger did not want to sell. Talks have now begun between the club and player over a new contract.
The Spaniard cemented his position as the Gunners first choice left-back last season, ahead of Kieran Gibbs and according to the Mail, Arsenal are keen to tie down the 29-year-old's long term future.

Monreal joined Arsenal from Malaga in 2013 and has gone on to make 86 appearances for the club, scoring two goals.
Following a tough start to life in North London, the Spaniard has now usurped Gibbs as the starting full-back for Arsene Wenger, with a string of fine performances last season.

ARSENAL MUST REACT
Francis Coquelin has recently said the defeat to West Ham was a wake-up call for Arsenal, and the Gunners will be desperate for a win when they travel to Crystal Palace this weekend.
Wenger's man can ill afford to drop more points and find themselves playing catch-up at such an early stage in the season.
The expected return to the starting line-up of Alexis Sanchez will be a huge boost for an Arsenal side who struggled to create chances in the 2-0 defeat to the Hammers.
WALCOTT SHOULD COME IN
Olivier Giroud struggled in the opening game, and in my opinion, should be dropped to the bench for the trip to Selhurst Park.
Following his performance in the Community Shield Theo Walcott should be given the opportunity to stake his claim for the strikers birth at Arsenal.
The 26-year-old brings a completely different dimension to Arsenal with his pace and is capable of matching the goalscoring ability of his French team-mate.
Arsenal may lose the physical presence offered by Giroud, but Walcott would offer more of a counter attacking threat against Palace said who are bound to come all guns blazing at Arsenal.
