NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn - What you should be looking forward to

Published 1 Comments

Next weekend is set to be a fantastic one for wrestling fans around the world. The NXT superstars and divas take over the Barclays Center for another special event and the following night it’s over to the main roster for the annual SummerSlam pay-per-view.

A number of big names will be in Brooklyn as The Undertaker takes on Brock Lesnar. Seth Rollins and John Cena put their titles on the line and Stephen Amell teams up with Neville to take on Stardust and King Barrett.

24 hours earlier in the same venue, 13,000 fans will pack out the Barclays Center to see the stars of NXT in action, the biggest TakeOver to date.

The NXT stars will definitely be trying to steal the show, and ensure that once the weekend is over the fans are talking more about TakeOver then they are about SummerSlam. Here are the things you should be looking forward to at TakeOver: Brooklyn.

The usual TakeOver events take place at Full Sail University, the same location the weekly NXT episodes take place. So there’s not a massive difference in the crowd attendances, except from the fans that the TakeOver crowds are usually louder.

Over 400 fans are in attendance at Full Sail University, so just imagine the crowd at the sold out Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It’s not something that we will be treated to for every single TakeOver event, but it will be a nice change to see 13,000 fans making it feel like an actual pay-per-view event.

We don’t get a lot of ladder matches on NXT. The last ladder match we saw at TakeOver was at NXT: ArRival where Neville defeated Bo Dallas to start off his lengthy NXT Championship reign.

This time we have a similar situation, but between Kevin Owens and Finn Balor.

Balor defeated Owens at the Beast in the East event for the title and it looked as if we were set for a standard rematch. General Manager William Regal announced it would be a ladder match which will be something different for the fans, especially in front of thousands of fans.

Here’s something no NXT fan would have ever predicted to take place. The great Jushin Liger competing inside of a WWE ring.

It’s definitely interesting to see somebody from New Japan Pro Wrestling pay a visit to the WWE and help out the NXT superstars, and his opponent will be Tyler Breeze. Regardless of his age, Liger will probably still put on an epic match against one of NXT’s more solid workers.

It won’t matter how the match goes down or even the result, having Liger in the ring itself will be a fantastic occasion and it could draw more eyes to TakeOver.

SummerSlam is boasting a stacked match card with more additions yet to be made, but TakeOver also has a match card to get fans tuning in.

The main event speaks for itself. NXT Championship match, Balor vs. Owens in a ladder match. We also have Breeze vs. Liger, Sasha Banks defends her NXT Women’s Championship against Bayley and Samoa Joe goes one on one against Baron Corbin.

The NXT Tag Team Championships will also be on the line, Blake and Murphy defend the gold against the Vaudevillians. So each match has something on the line, and there’s no real ‘squash’ match announced.

Another superstar will be making his debut at a TakeOver special, like many before him Apollo Crews will be hoping to make an impact on his first night.

This is bigger than it sounds. There has been so much hype surrounding his debut, and to have him debut with a great name at the biggest TakeOver to date just shows that he has something huge in store for him at TakeOver.

It’s not clear just how Crews will debut, but you can expect the 13,000 fans in attendance to erupt when he finally does appear on the stage.

No NXT TakeOver special is complete without a twist. We’ve had Owens turning on Sami Zayn as well as Samoa Joe making his debut, it leaves the fans wanting more.

The safe bet would be to expect something big to happen, although it’s unclear what that might be right now.

Many are speculating it could involve Hideo Itami and a possible altercation with Finn Balor, turning one of the two heel in the process. Nothing can be ruled out just yet. Plenty of stars will be looking to make an impact, even those that aren’t on the card.

With all of these factors being snowballed into one epic night, you can be sure that NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn will be one that you simply cannot miss.
