Manchester United star David de Gea never agreed to sit out of his side’s games, despite Louis van Gaal’s claims that the goalkeeper didn’t want to play for the club anymore.

That’s according to Spanish busybody and journalist Guillem Balague, who says that at no point did De Gea state that he didn’t want to be on the pitch.

The Spain international was replaced by Sergio Romero for the Red Devils’ opening Premier League fixture for this season, with Van Gaal citing the ongoing transfer speculation as the reason the 24-year-old was dropped.

It’s been widely documented that he won’t feature against Aston Villa tonight either, and as a result questions are now being asked as to how keen he is to leave the club.

Reports earlier today suggested he was ‘baffled’ at Van Gaal’s comments suggesting he was content to miss out, and Balague’s information appears conducive to that theory.

Longing to move?

If nothing else the speculation borne from his second week out of the squad points towards the idea that he might well be destined for the bright lights of Real Madrid.

Florentino Perez is said to see De Gea as the ideal replacement for Iker Casillas, and though Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla currently call the Santiago Bernabeu home, neither of them boast ‘Galactico’ status.

Troubles negotiating

As a result Real have been trying to engineer a deal for De Gea for the best part of the summer, though they remain at loggerheads with United over the fee to be paid.

Van Gaal and his associates aren’t going to be held to ransom despite the fact De Gea’s contract expires next summer, but Real are refusing to pay what they deem to be over the odds.

The saga continues.
