Arsene Wenger has confirmed Nacho Monreal has not been offered a new Arsenal contract, despite reports suggesting that he was set to extend his stay in north London.
The Spaniard’s current deal runs out at the end of next season, and since he isn’t considered a key player by anyone associated with the Emirates Stadium there has been talk that he might leave for a new club.
Recent rumours though have inferred the 29-year-old was in line for a new deal, although Wenger wasted little time in throwing that speculation on the scrap heap.

No contract yet
“I’m happy with his performances but at the moment we are not in negotiations for a new contract,” Wenger said, as per the Evening Standard.
Having been in competition with Kieran Gibbs for a place on the left hand side of Arsenal’s defence virtually since his arrival, Monreal has never been a regular fixture in the starting XI.
The former Athletic Bilbao man has dipped in and out of Wenger’s plans as his form has fluctuated, and in truth it wouldn’t be a huge blow to the club if he were to move on at the end of this year.
Of course Wenger is known for giving ageing players a chance to prove themselves in his squad, and Monreal’s experience does come in handy when Gibbs isn’t available.
Wenger's old boys
The likes of Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta have managed to play for the Gunners well into their 30s, and it makes sense Monreal will want to do the same if given the chance.
Whether or not he will be is a matter to be decided by Arsenal though. Wenger has a decision to make soon concerning whether or not to open contract negotiations, and the matter could well be concluded before Christmas.
