David de Gea 'surprised' by Van Gaal snub, source close to player confirms

Published 4 Comments

David de Gea is surprised at having been once again axed from Manchester United’s squad, and wants to play for Louis van Gaal’s side, according to BBC Sport’s Dan Roan.

The well-respected journalist claims to have information from a source close to the Spain international that suggests the goalkeeper is less than content with being left out, despite comments from Louis van Gaal that implied he didn’t want to feature against Aston Villa tonight.

De Gea surprised

De Gea was left out of the squad that beat Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and isn’t going to play at Villa Park either. Contrary to reports that state that’s the way he wants it though, the man himself is said to have been left ruffled at Van Gaal’s decision.

What the ensuing backlash of De Gea not featuring against Villa could harbour remains to be seen, but it is looking increasingly likely now that he will be sold to Real Madrid.

Real interest

Los Blancos have been trying desperately to negotiate a fee with the Red Devils, but the two parties have failed to reach a mutual figure for De Gea’s transfer so far.

If what the speculation insists is true, and De Gea has been training with the reserve squad, it’s highly likely that he’ll be less than happy with his current position at United.

De Gea's stance

After all, the former Atletico Madrid man has been the club’s lynchpin over the past two seasons, and has remained a consummate professional throughout the saga linking him with a move to Real.

That might well change in the coming days though if he feels he’s being unfairly treated by Van Gaal.

The Dutchman has Sergio Romero in reserve and the Argentine is a validated stopper, but that won’t stop United supporters venting their frustrations if it looks like De Gea has been forced out.
