Manchester United star David de Gea could sack Jorge Mendes if the super agent fails to secure him a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid before the close of the transfer window.

De Gea, of course, has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu throughout the summer period, however up until now a deal has failed to materialise.

And Spanish outlet elconfidencial are now claiming that the talented shot-stopper will have no use for his agent if he remains in Manchester for the rest of this campaign.

The goalkeeper, who has been named the Red Devils' Player of the Year for the past two seasons running, is now in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, and it now appears that he could move back to Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

A move in the next window, then, would seemingly see the shot-stopper axe Mendes, as he wouldn't need him to push through a move to the Spanish giants.

Up for the fight?

If De Gea does stay on in Manchester for the remainder of the campaign, one worry for the United management will no doubt be if the player is up for the challenge of starring for the club week in, week out once again.

It's clear for all to see that De Gea's head has been turned by the advances of Real Madrid, so how likely is it that he will be able to operate at his best all season long in Manchester.

Let's be honest, even if the former Atletico man continues to ply his trade at the Theatre of Dreams, speculation will only continue to rumble on over the course of the next nine months or so. United may well be better off without him, but they must find a suitable long-term replacement sooner rather than later.
