It has been confirmed that Miguel Cotto will face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez which on paper looks set to be a mouth watering encounter between two highly skilled boxers and could potentially be fight of the year.

Canelo and Cotto will face off at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on the 21st November. It could make up for the disappointment of the much anticipated clash between Mayweather v Pacquiao.

The two boxers boast a fearsome record with Cotto winning 40 of his fights with 33 KO’s and only four losses and Canelo winning 45 times with 32 KO’s and only 1 loss and 1 draw.

The two boxers are going into the fight with two impressive victories. Cotto beat Daniel Geale last time out via a third round TKO and successfully defended his WBC middleweight title which he won from Sergio Martinez.

Whereas, Canelo beat James Kirkland with a brutal knockout in the third round and will be a contender for knockout of the year. Both boxers will be extremely confident, not only have they won their last three fights but they have been in the mix with elite boxers throughout their careers.

They do have one thing in common though; Cotto and Canelo have lost to Floyd Mayweather. So, they will not be fazed by the enormity of the fight because they have experienced big fights before.

It is rumoured that the winner of the bout will have to box the feared Gennady Golovkin known as triple G. Golovkin boasts a remarkable record of 33 wins with 30 KO’s.

Triple G has beaten everybody who has been put in front of him in emphatic fashion which is why he has found it difficult to find opponents who are willing to step into the ring with him. If the rumours are true then whoever he faces Cotto or Canelo it will be the biggest fight of Golovkin’s career so far.

The future of boxing is looking bright with Cotto set to face Canelo with the potential for the winner fighting Golovkin. Boxing has often been criticised in recent years with the best boxers in each division avoiding each other.

However, this fight does not live up to the current trends with both boxers putting pen to paper and they are ready to put it all on the line on November 21st. It is certainly one which all boxing fans will not want to miss as it is set to be enthralling encounter between two elite boxers.
