Del Piero holds hope of Italy call

Published Add your comment

Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero turned back time with a delightful performance on Saturday night, inspiring his side to a 2-1 win over Internazionale before learning he had not made the grade for Italy coach Roberto Donadoni.

The 33-year-old appeared to be back to his prime as he tore the Inter defence apart at the San Siro, lacking only a goal to make it a masterpiece reminiscent of his glorious past.

However, his hopes of playing for Italy at Euro 2008 took a blow when Donadoni again overlooked him in his squad selection to face Spain next Wednesday, but said: "There is still Euro 2012."
