Arsenal have rejected an offer from Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin from Wellington Silva, as they want to send him to the Championship instead.
According to talkSPORT, citing German publication Bild, Hertha made an attempt to loan the Brazilian, but were unsuccessful as the Gunners see him remaining in the country for the forthcoming campaign.
Wellington at Arsenal?
Since arriving in north London Wellington has spent a series of loan spells away from the club, and it’s recently been made clear that Arsene Wenger wants him to get more experience elsewhere this year.

With that in mind there’s a looming question surrounding just where he will end up next, and perhaps Hertha believed they could benefit from the winger’s services following loan spells with the likes of Levante, Real Murcia and Almeria amongst others.
However, in a bid to see Wellington garner more physicality Wenger wants him to remain in England, perhaps indicating that the Frenchman sees a long-term future for the 22-year-old at the Emirates Stadium.
first-team on the cards?
Others such as Joel Campbell have impressed on loan only to fall short of doing enough to earn a place in Wenger’s starting XI, and so nothing can be guaranteed beyond the fact that Arsenal are keeping a genuine interest in him.
Wellington initially signed for the Gunners in 2010 but has yet to make a single appearance for the first-team. Perhaps if he can do a job in England’s second tier he will eventually get his shot, though there’s plenty of work for him to do yet.
