Chelsea are ready to make a late move for Barcelona winger Pedro in this transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Blues owner Roman Abramovich wants to bring the Spanish international to Stamford Bridge despite Jose Mourinho's previous reservations over the talented wide-man.

The west London outfit's interest, then, will no doubt surprise Manchester United, who had appeared to be in the driving seat to secure the player's signature.  In fact, the same report from the Mail goes on to claim that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is confident the the deal will be concluded sooner rather than later.

It appears, though, that despite the player seemingly ready to complete a move to Old Trafford, United could yet have quite the battle on their hands, with Chelsea now ready to make their move. The Mail also claims that Manchester City could still swoop for Pedro, so it looks set to be an interesting couple of days ahead as this transfer saga continues to rumble on.

Pedro could yet make a surprise turn in any £22 million move to the Premier League over the coming weeks.

Top player

There's no doubt about it, whichever club manages to secure the signature of Pedro in this transfer window, they will be securing the services of a top, top player.

Ultimately, in La Liga, despite struggling for first-team chances on a regular basis, Pedro has both created and scored goals for the Catalans, and will only prove a force in England's elite division.

The Spanish ace is also an extremely well drilled player, so would no doubt fit in well at either of Manchester United or Chelsea.
