Ray Rice could be a possible running back target for the Buffalo Bills after their starter LeSean McCoy went down injured during practice yesterday.
McCoy went down yesterday during practice holding his hamstring, and he becomes the fifth Bills running back to be injured during training camp. Noticeable backs Fred Jackson and Boobie Dixon are also out injured.
Bills Head Coach Rex Ryan said on the team’s website: “The trainer said that the hamstring is intact, it’s not off the bone, so that’s real positive. Hopefully it’s not a pull; hopefully it’s just a strain.”

McCoy will be receiving an MRI scan on the injury later today. However, his injury means the only healthy true running backs on roster for Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns are rookies Bronson Hill and Ricky Seale.
Whilst this might not be an immediate problem, depending on McCoy’s length of absence, the Bills may want to look towards picking up a possible back up in case the worst happens in terms of recovery time.
Ray Rice The Answer?
One possible candidate could be the infamous Ray Rice.
The former Baltimore Raven hasn’t been part of a team since being cut by the AFC North side in September last year, after video emerged of him being involved in a physical alteration with his now wife.
Whilst many teams such as the Bills have been running back needy, no one has yet picked up the phone and given Rice a call, despite the number of people saying he deserves a second chance in the league.
Pro Football Talk asked Ryan if he would sign Rice last Friday, and he said: “For us, we kind of have a loaded backfield, so there won’t even be a consideration there, because [of] the type of depth we have.
“And I think that’s probably what a lot of it is. I was with Ray in Baltimore [and] I really liked him when I was there. . . . We don’t have any interest and we never went into great detail about it because of the type of depth that we have at running back.”
Ryan has been known to sign players for the Bills with controversial pasts such as Percy Harvin, Richie Incognito, and most recently, IK Enemkapli. With the Bills recent developing depth problems at running back, don’t be surprised if Ryan changes his mind to give Rice his second chance in the NFL.
