The Argentina international, who made his third consecutive appearance for the Red Devils on Tuesday night against Club Brugge, also admitted that the current situation involving both De Gea and Victor Valdes is surprising.
De Gea has not even been named amongst the substitutes in any of Manchester United’s three competitive matches so far this season as Real Madrid attempt to secure his service, while Valdes is unlikely to play for the Red Devils again following a bust-up with Louis van Gaal.

"The truth is that I know nothing about his possible departure to Madrid,” Romero was quoted as saying by Onda Cero, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. “For me, [I want him] to stay. He’s a very nice guy, always working and willing to help. That's important for the group.”
On the subject of De Gea and Valdes, Romero added: "Yes, the truth is surprising. They are two great goalkeepers. One has won everything he has played [for] in his life and the other has the whole [career] ahead to keep winning things. For me it is a privilege and a great joy to work with them both.”
Romero won't play much if De Gea stays
Romero, though, stands a much better chance of playing regular first-team football at Old Trafford if De Gea leaves for the Bernabeu this month.
The South American will almost certainly be demoted back down to the role of back-up goalkeeper if De Gea ends up staying with Manchester United past September 1 - even thought the Spain international is unlikely to sign a contract extension with the Premier League giants.
Romero has, on the whole, performed well for United over the past week-and-a-half - but there have been a few nervy moments, including one last night against Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off round first leg.
