WWE might be dialing up the 619 area code very soon amid rumors of a former WWE Champion being interested in rejoining the company.
According to Daily Wrestling News, luchadore legend Rey Mysterio, who left WWE in February this year following a lengthy absence from television, has reportedly sent out feelers and inquiries regarding a possible return to the place he called home for 13 years.
Mysterio has recently been performing in Mexico with AAA, the country's biggest wrestling organization. However, his deal with them is not exclusive or set for the long-term, especially with the future of Lucha Underground up in the air following its first season.

Mysterio has said in interviews since his departure from WWE that he left the company on amicable terms, stating that he would welcome the opportunity to return one day. He has said nothing but positives about his time there, which has been considered a tactic of damage control in case he considered coming back to WWE.
The masked superstar was an incredibly popular member of the WWE roster throughout his time in the company, experiencing much championship success. Mysterio is a former WWE Champion and two-time World Heavyweight Champion, as well as holding the Intercontinental, Cruiserweight and Tag Team titles on numerous occasions.

WWE not interested in Mysterio?
However, the feeling backstage at the moment is WWE officials are cold to the idea of bringing Mysterio back to the company. Obviously you never say never in a business like professional wrestling, and his appeal to the Latin market in the USA and Mexico could sway WWE to consider this more thoroughly, at least in the short term.
Currently, WWE does not have a superstar of his repute for that prevalent wrestling fan base, with Alberto Del Rio no longer with WWE and names like the Lucha Dragons and Los Matadores relegated to the lower reaches of the card.
Still, whilst Mysterio maintains that he left WWE on the best possible terms, reports prior to his departure suggested he was trying to force his way out for a while. His last few years on the roster were also fraught with injuries, particularly to his knee, meaning the 40-year-old star can no longer perform at the level he once could.
Nevertheless, with his appeal as a legend and the fact that he has an extremely positive reputation among the WWE Universe for his years of service and excellent matches, a short-term return for Mysterio could be an excellent business decision, even if it is only popping into NXT for some matches with the next generation of superstars.
