Arsenal have been working for months behind the scenes in an attempt to secure the signing of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
This has been reported by Goal.com, who claim that the Gunners haven't given up on landing the Frenchman for a club-record fee of £45 million in this summer transfer period.
In fact, the report goes on to claim that the club are ready to offer the striker as much £150,000-a-week to move to the Emirates. It appears, though, that Arsenal's hopes of securing the striker's services are fading, with the same report claiming that Real are still adamant that Benzema isn't for sale.

Benzema, then, is clearly recognised by Arsenal as one of the leading strikers in world football, but it's going to take something special for him to depart the Bernabeu over the coming weeks.
And, if he fails to move to the Emirates, then Arsene Wenger and Co. may well have to rely on the trio of Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud to produce the goods from the striker role this season.
Sanchez the talisman
But, of course, it's Alexis Sanchez who really will prove the Gunners' talisman as they go in search of success on the domestic and European scene this term.
Ultimately, the Chilean ace was one of the standout players in England's elite division last term, and there's no reason why he won't be able to get even better this time round.
You can hardly blame Wenger for attempting to sign Benzema, though. A double act of Sanchez and Benzema really would change the dynamics of the Premier League title race. The Arsenal hierarchy have it all to do to make the transfer happen.
