Chelsea are now the bookmakers’ favourites to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba before the transfer window closes on September 1 following a flurry of bets backing the potential transfer.
Pogba was 7/1 to sign for Chelsea at the start of the day, but are now priced at 6/4 with online betting exchange Betfair after today’s market activity.
That means the Blues are firm favourites to sign Pogba ahead of Manchester City (4/1), Barcelona (12/1) and Real Madrid (14/1).

Michael Bowers, Football Trader for Betfair commented: “After a flood of bets on Chelsea to sign Paul Pogba, the Blues have been cut from 7/1 to 6/4 favourite. This market has attracted a huge amount of attention in recent weeks, with all the momentum behind Barcelona and Man City to win the race for the player’s signature.
“But it looks like the Eva Carneiro saga may have simply provided the perfect smoke screen for Mourinho to bring the Juventus star into the squad completely under the radar.”
Chelsea to sign Pedro
Chelsea stunned the football world today by coming out of nowhere to secure a deal for Barcelona forward Pedro, ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City, and the signing of Pogba would boost their chances of finishing the season with silverware yet further.
Jose Mourinho’s side have picked up one point from their first two Premier League matches and were comprehensively beaten by Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
Pogba to midfield, Fabregas to No. 10?
Cesc Fabregas was highlighted by Sky Sports pundits as one of the reasons Chelsea lost the match. For all of his qualities going forwards, the Spaniard often fails to carry out his defensive duties.
Pogba, though, could form a formidable partnership with Nemanja Matic in Chelsea’s midfield. He’s a more defensively-minded midfielder than Fabregas, who could move to the No. 10 position flanked by Eden Hazard and his former Barcelona teammate Pedro.
