Schalke coach Mirko Slomka was full of praise for Manuel Neuer after the goalkeeper saved two penalties in the shoot-out against Porto to earn the Royal Blues a Champions League quarter-final berth.

The 21-year-old put his name forward as a candidate to oust Jens Lehmann as Germany´s number one this summer with a stunning display to secure Schalke a place in the last eight of Europe´s premier club competition for the first time.

"With Neuer, we had a fantastic goalkeeper, not only in the penalty shoot-out, but also before," enthused Slomka, whose own future at the club looks a bit brighter after the victory.
